The new MagSafe accessory for iPhone 12 models has begun to arrive. Now that people have got their hands on the device in the wild, further details of the new product have gradually been uncovered. Here are a few key updates:

  • The MagSafe battery can not be charged via a Qi charger, Apple’s MagSafe charger or any other wireless charger.
  • An iPhone 12 connected to the battery pack can reverse wireless charge the accessory if the iPhone is connected to a lightning cable and is itself charging. This does however require a power adapter with a high enough wattage (20W or higher).
  • It’s possible to check the status of the battery of both your iPhone and the MagSafe battery from the lock screen and the battery widget on your home screen.
  • The MagSafe battery pack can be used as a portable Qi charger and can charge AirPods with a wireless charging case
