We’re just one week away from Apple’s next special event. It’s no surprise then, that we’re starting to see more and more details emerge surrounding the possible announcements. Today we’re hearing more news regarding the camera system, the colour options and even some packaging details for the iPhone 14.

iPhone 14 camera system

In a new tweet, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo states that Apple will ship the iPhone 14 with a brand new Ultra-Wide camera. The camera will offer significantly enhanced low light performance thanks to bigger 1.4µm pixels. This is a huge increase over the 1.0µm pixels found in the iPhone 13 Ultra-Wide camera. Suppliers are said to include Sony, Largan, LG and Minebea. The system will remain a 12-megapixel sensor.

As for the primary wide-angle camera, Apple will be moving to a much larger 1.3-inch sensor. This is over 20% larger than the sensor in the current iPhone 13. On the iPhone 14 Pro, however, the main camera will also see an increased megapixel count, moving up to 48 megapixels. This will see a decrease in the pixel size on the pro models, however thanks to pixel binning, in low light the device will output 12-megapixel images by combining pixels into so-called ‘super pixels’. It should result in improved low light performance despite the smaller pixel size.

iPhone 14 naming convention confirmed

Prolific Apple leaker on Twitter, ShrimpApplePro, linked to a post today on Weibo seemingly confirming that the next iPhone will indeed be called iPhone 14.

Pay little credence to the images of the iPhone in these tweets. But do take note of the packaging label. Clearly, it isn’t possible to verify the genuine nature of the image. But given Shrimps’ excellent track record and accuracy, it does give credibility to the image.

iPhone 14 colour options

As first reported by Macrumors, a user on a Korean blogging site, Naver, has posted what they claim to be a list of the colour options for iPhone 14. The user cites a developer in the US as being the source of their information. If the claim is to be believed, we should see the following colours unveiled next week:

iPhone 14 Pro
  • Silver
  • Gold
  • Graphite
  • Green
  • Purple
iPhone 14
  • Red
  • Blue
  • Purple
  • Green
  • Midnight
  • Starlight

The AppleTLDR take

We’re going to see more and more ‘leaks’, the closer we get to the event. The veracity of which will range from plausible to questionable to outright attention seeking. Remember that a leak is just a ‘rumour’ until such time as Apple makes the official announcement.
