If you upload images to the website, avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Other visitors can download and extract any location data from images uploaded to the site. You can avoid this by removing EXIF and GPS data from your images.

If you leave a comment on the site, you can choose to save your name, email address and website in cookies. This is so you don’t have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies last for one year.
If you visit the login page, the website sets a temporary cookie if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, the website sets up several cookies to save your login details and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login stays active for two weeks. If you log out, the login cookies are removed.
If guest writers edit or publish an article, an additional cookie is saved in their browser. This cookie includes no personal data and points to the post ID of the article they edited. It expires after 1 day.

The website doesn’t display banner adverts or integrated Google ads. Feel free to use an Ad Blocker on the site. Sometimes the site will use affiliate links and work with sponsors to help keep things running. These are clearly marked and unobtrusive.

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email. You can use a VPN or a service like Apple’s private relay to mask this. This site doesn’t use advertisements and this information is never forwarded.
How long your data is retained for 📆
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so that follow-up comments can be approved automatically. Instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
If you register on the website and choose to store personal information on your profile, a user profile is stored. All users can see, edit, or delete their own personal information at any time (except for changing their username). Website administrators (that’s just me!) can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data 🚮
If you have an account on the site, you can request to receive an exported file of your personal data. That includes any personal data you’ve provided. You can also ask for any personal data to be erased. That doesn’t include any data that has to be kept for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
